Striking Distance

Keywords where a website ranks on positions 11-20 (page 2) that could potentially reach page 1 with optimization effort.

Striking distance refers to keywords where your website ranks on the second page of Google search results (typically positions 11-20). These keywords represent your best opportunities for quick ranking improvements because you're already close to the first page where the majority of clicks occur.

Pages ranking in striking distance have already proven to Google that they're relevant for those keywords. With targeted optimization efforts, these pages can often be pushed onto page one relatively quickly compared to keywords where you don't rank at all or rank much further down.

Striking distance opportunities are valuable because the difference in traffic between page 1 and page 2 is dramatic. Studies show that less than 1% of searchers click on page 2 results, while page 1 results receive over 99% of clicks. Moving from position 11 to position 10 can increase your traffic significantly.

To capitalize on striking distance keywords, identify them using tools like SERPView's Striking Distance Report, then optimize those pages by improving content depth, adding relevant keywords, building internal links, and earning backlinks. These quick wins can have an outsized impact on your overall organic traffic.
